A brief history of the Cape Arm of the New Main Line (BCN)

Canal Details
Canal length : 0.3 miles

The Cape Arm was originally part of the BCN Old Main Line. In 1827 Thomas Telford created the New Main Line which straightened parts of the Old Main Line, sections of the old canal were left in place to service the existing factories and wharfs. These remaining, looping remnants of the old canal were referred to as The Loops.

The Cap Arm was originally a loop but much of it has subsequently been filled in. The remaining section is now derelict.
